Back in Black – A Rock’n'Roll inspired photoshoot
This is an editorial made for portifolio purposes and the first time I ever worked in a studio. The only accessories were three different sized soft boxes at the studio, I used only a big one, as Fernanda (who came up with the photoshoot) wanted a contrasted but soft lighting.
The inspirations for this editorial are some rock and pop icons, like Keith Richards, Slash and Madonna, for example. The images are supposed to be saturated and with an over the top styling. The whole team knew I had never taken classes on studio lighting nor worked on a studio before and were a bit worried, but it’s not like it’s rocket science, it’s all quite intuitive too. And we were all quite happy with the results.

Esse editorial foi feito com o propósito de formar portifolio e foi a primeira vez que trabalhei em um Estúdio. Os únicos acessórios que haviam lá eram 3 soft boxes de tamanhos diferentes, eu usei apenas um grande já que a Fernanda (a mentora das fotos) queria uma luz contrastada mas suave. As Inspirações pra o editorial são algumas figuras do rock e pop, como Keith Richards, Slash e Madonna por exemplo. A proposta requeria imagens saturadas e um styling exagerado.

Winter is coming…
As you may have noticed, our winter is warmer than Winterfell’s summer and it’s still a few months away, but Manu’s team is working at full speed to bring lovely things for their 2013 Winter collection. Here I share just a few shots of the t-shirts. There’s a lot of beautiful things coming up.

Andi Rosés for Beware of Pity
One of the most adorable models in my city, Andi Rosés, and another book cover. This time for Stefan Zweig’s “Beware of Pity”. In the begining of the last century, Stefan Zweig was hugely successful and it puzzles me why I hadn’t heard of him before the comissions for the book covers. At any rate, the two books I read from him were really interesting. Even if fueled with more than just a little bit of melodrama.

Uma das modelos mais adoráveis na minha cidade, Andi Rosés, e outra capa de livro. Desta vez para “Beware of Pity” (Cuidado da Piedade) de Stefan Zweig. No começo do século passado, Stefan Zweig foi um escritor muito bem sucedido, fico curiosa do porque eu nunca ter ouvido falar dele antes das comissções para as capas de livro. De qualquer forma, os dois livros que li dele eram bastante interessantes, mesmo que recheados de melodrama.

The Chess Room
Like some of you may already now, I’ve been comissioned to create a few book covers. This one was shot early in December and it was for Stefan Zweig’s “The Royal Game” (aka Chess: a novel). So for this cover, I had the idea to create a “chess room”. I knew I’d have lots of work ahead but I knew it would be worth it, and quite fun too. The room I built with a little help from my boyfriend and his best friend, it took us a total of six hours to get it done. The chess pieces I made using the papier machê technique and well… it looked really rough, I smoothed it on photoshop and in some photos it looks fake, which is a pity since I took so much trouble to make them real. I had never worked with papier machê before, it was an eight hour job…

Como alguns de vocês devem saber, eu fui comissionada a criar algumas capas de livros. Essas fotos foram feitas no começo de Dezembro passado e eram para a capa do livro “A Novela de Xadrez” de Stefan Zweig. Para essa capa eu tive a idéia de construir uma “sala de xadrez”. Eu sabia que daria um trabalhão, mas também que valeria a pena e seria divertido também. A sala eu construí com a ajuda do meu namorado e seu melhor amigo, foi um trabalho de 6 horas para concluir. As peças de xadrez eu fiz usando a técnica de papel machê e bom… as superfícies ficaram bem ásperas e cheias de lombadinhas, eu alisei no photoshop e em algumas fotos ficou parecendo fake, o que é uma pena já que eu me dei ao trabalho de fazê-las reais. Eu nunca tinha feito nada em papel machê antes, me levou 8 horas para fazer as peças…

The scenery for Glam4U’s winter collection “Le Jardin Secret” by Manu
Last week I had the pleasure to once again shoot for Glam4U, this time their winter collection. It was a lovely day and the photos turned out gorgeously. While I can’t share the collection’s photos, I’ll let you see a little of the beautiful scenery Many set up for the photoshoot.

Semana passada eu tive o prazer de fotografar mais uma vez para Glam4U, desta vez para a coleção de inverno. Foi um dia muito agradável e as fotos ficaram lindas. Enquanto eu não posso compartilhar as fotos da coleção, eu vou deixá-los ver um pouco do cenário lindo que a Manu armou para a sessão.
Day of the Dead for Under the Volcano
For another really nice book cover comission, I had to read the book “Under the Volcano” by Malcolm Lowry. It’s a very complex book, full of symbology, and I have to admit that the book only became alive to me when I started reading “A companion to Under the Volcano” that explains the many many references in the book that I wasn’t getting at first. With this cheat, “Under the Volcano” became one of the best books I read in 2012.

Para mais uma comissão para capa de livro, eu tive que ler o livro “À Sombra do Vulcão” de Malcolm Lowry. É um livro muito complexo, cheio de simbologia, e eu tenho que admitir que o livro só tomou vida para mim quando eu comecei a ler “Uma companhia para À Sombra do Vulcão” que explica as muitas referências do livro que eu não estava entendendo a princípio. Com essa “cola”, “À Sombra do Vulcão” tornou-se um dos melhores livros que li em 2012.

Les Liaisons Dangereuses
On the last week of November, a group of people gathered together for what was to be a photoshoot for portifolio purposes. We went to a lovely (albeit strange and suspicious) farm for the photos. Altough there were some serious problems with the production and styling, we did get some great photos, specially thanks to the great job the beauty team did and some of the more experienced models. The themes seem to be all over the place though, and it bothers me a bit, as in: the proposal for this shoot wasn’t clearly defined. Also, some of the dresses were quite ugly and weren’t doing any favors to the girls’ bodies, there are some down right tacky photos that I’m not even sure why I’m sharing…

Na última semana de Novembro, um grupo de pessoas se junto para fazer o que seria um ensaio para portifolio. Nós fomos a uma bela (mas também estranha e suspeita) fazenda para fazer as fotos. E embora houveram alguns problemas sérios com produção e styling, nós conseguimos algumas fotos muito boas, especialmente graças à equipe de beleza e alguns dos modelos. O que me incomoda em algumas dessas fotos é o fato de o tema não estar bem definido e que alguns vestidos eram além de feios, não ajudavam em nada o corpo das modelos, tem foto que eu nem sei porque estou compartilhando…
