Caldas – Minas Gerais

On the Easter Holidays, I went to Caldas, a small city in the mountains of Minas Gerais.  We left Londrina thursday mid afternoon and ten hours later, we arrived. Friday morning, I was the only one to wake up early and go out on a stroll with Dona Ilza, our hostess. Dona Ilza was fantastic, a sweet and inviting person, who nearly killed us with so much food 😉

No feriado de Páscoa, eu fui para Caldas, uma pequena cidade nas montanhas de Minas Gerais, perto de Poços de Caldas. Nós saímos de Londrina quinta-feira, quase no final da tarde e dez horas depois, chegamos. Sexta de manhã, eu fui a única a acordar cedo e fui dar uma volta com Dona Ilza, nossa anfitriã. Dona Ilza foi muito ótima, hospitaleira e muito simpática, que quase nos matou de tanto comer 😉

The weather was rehearsing an improvement, so I just took a few snapshots of the city, hoping for the sun to come out, but Alas! After 2p.m. this day it didn’t stop raining until we left on the sunday afternoon.

O tempo estava ensaiando uma melhora, então eu só tirei algumas fotos rápidas da cidade, esperando que o sol saísse, mas não! Depois das duas da tarde da sexta não parou de chover até a hora que fomos embora no domingo.

There were some really interesting houses by the block’s corners. And the city is flat only at the top, obviously. That’s the town’s center. Where the two churchs, the two banks  and the main square are. The rest is all steepy.

Haviam algumas casas nas esquinas, muito interessantes. E a cidade é “reta” apenas no topo, óbvio. É o centro da cidade. Onde as duas igrejas, os dois bancos e a praça principal estão. O resto é tudo ladeira.

There’s a rock that faces  the city, and it has the shape of a human heart. So it’s called The Heart Rock. Atop the mountain, there’s a tiny chapel. I was SO hoping we’d climb it up, but because of the rain, that didn’t happen. That’s the view from the center of the city.

Tem uma rocha que fica de frente para a cidade, e tem o formato de um coração humano. Então ela é chamada de a Pedra do Coração. No topo tem uma capela. Eu queria TANTO subir a montanha, mas por causa da chuva, não pudemos. Essa é a pedra vista da cidade.

The town is lovely all around 😉 And there were wild orchids everywhere!

Saturday morning, was the last time I took the camera out, just to take some photos inside the main church. Here you can see two photos of it.  The painting is “The Annunciation”, from a Swedish painter.

Sábado de manhã foi a última vez que peguei a máquina, para tirar algumas fotos do interior da igreja matricial. Aqui você pode ver duas fotos. A pintura é “A Anunciação”, de um pintor Sueco.

While I was talking photos of the church, the guys were at the ice-cream shop. After I finished taking the photos, I met them there and to my surprise, there were around 15 humming birds flying and fighting around. They were so close! At hands’ reach!

Enquanto eu estava tirando fotos da igreja, o pessoal estava na sorveteria. Depois que eu terminei de tirar algumas fotos, eu os encontrei lá e para minha surpresa, haviam uns 15 beija-flores voando e brigando pelas flores com água + açúcar. Eles estavam tão perto, ao alcance da mão!

My next post will be of the two waterfalls we visited friday, around lunch time, before it all started to rain ;P
