Photo for a book

This year I joined a local photo club. It’s pretty much a bunch of retired gentleman who meet up on saturday afternoons to talk about photography, contests, tips, photoshop, and any other thing related to photography. Because of the time they meet, it’s not everyone who can attend, specially photographers who work on saturdays, but when I don’t have anything else to do, I go there as well.

It’s quite nice actually, and 4 times a year, they hold an internal photography contest. There is no prize, they just do that to get to see each others photos, and the first place is displayed on a wall. This year’s second contest’s theme was “Portrait” and the photo I took of my grandmother won first place.

Este ano eu comecei a ir às reuniões do Fotoclube de Londrina. São um bando de amantes da fotografia que se juntam para falar sobre dicas, concursos, photoshop, equipamentos, ou qualquer outra coisa relacionada à fotografia. Eles se encontram todo sábado às 16:00 e por causa desse horário complicado, não é todo mundo que pode ir às reuniões. Muito fotógrafo está trabalhando nesse horário. Quando eu não tenho muito o que fazer, eu vou lá também 🙂

É bem legal na verdade, e umas 4 vezes por ano, eles fazem um concurso interno. Não tem prêmio, mas as primeiras colocadas são penduradas num mural. O tema do segundo concurso foi “Retratos” e essa foto da minha vó ficou em primeiro lugar.

Then, next year, the photo club will promote a Photography Bienal. There will be lectures, expositions, contests aaaand… a book. The book will feature all the photos that on “first place” on the internal contests in the past. I hadn’t even sent any photos to the other contests, but now I wish I had 😛 hehehe.

So, last thursday, I received an-mail from the club’s president, asking me if I had any portrait of mine that I’d like to send to be featured on the book. They had asked biographical information about me before, but no one had planned on adding photos, so he said that I should send one right away or they would have to use some other portrait of mine that someone had taken of me (which was obviously a horrible picture). I answered him right away: “Noooo, don’t worry, I’ll send you a good one.”

It was then when I realized I had not even one good, decent, simple, plain portrait of mine. Took only one photo, quick edit and sent it out. This is the photo that will be on the book 🙂

Ano que vem, o Fotoclub está preparando uma Bienal de fotografia, e terão várias palestras, exposições, concursos e eles vão fazer um livro também. Neste livro estarão todas as fotos que ficaram em primeiro lugar nos concursos internos. Tem cada fotona! 😀 Eu não mandei fotos para os outros concursos internos e agora me arrependo disso 😛 hehehehe

Daí então, quinta feira recebi um e-mail do presidente do fotoclube, perguntando se eu não tinha uma foto minha para colocar no perfil do livro. Já haviam me pedido dados biográficos, mas ninguém tinha tido a idéia de colocar fotos do lado da biografia, daí tiveram a idéia em cima da hora e o presidente disse que se eu não tivesse, eles usariam uma foto que alguém de lá tinha tirado de mim (uma foto horrorosa, claro!). Mandei uma resposta na hora: “Naãããããoooo, opa, pera lá que eu já mando uma foto melhor!”

Foi aí que eu percebi que não tinha nenhuma foto boa, decente, simples, direta minha! Absurdo! Rapidão tirei uma foto, editei e mandei! Essa é a foto que vai pro livro. Está um pouco fora de foco, mas é melhor pq não mostra os defeitos! Hahahhaa
