NYC, Day #9 & #10 – Museum of Natural History, The Cloisters, Soho & Guggenheim

Our 9th day was spent at another museum, this time the Museum of Natural History. Like I mentioned before, it was full of creeptastic nightmare inducing artifacts.

Nosso 9º dia foi gasto em outro museu, desta vez no Museu de História Natural. Como eu havia mencionado antes, era cheio de artefatos sinistros. Meu… pensa nuns pesadeeelos!

This is a vase for poison, as you can see, it has an all special way of telling people to keep off.

Esse é um vaso para colocar veneno, como vocês podem ver, tem um jeito todo especial de dizer às pessoas para manterem distância.

The Shrunken Heads were absolutely the worst. Hideously creepy.

Essas cabeças reduzidas eram absolutamente as piores.

It was quite cute to see the kids running and yelling to see “Dum dum”…

On our way back, I shot a musician on the subway station. These people make soundtracks in movies make sense because there actually is music in your life as you go by. In my city there isn’t such a thing and it’s a shame. He was playing “Billie Jean” most enthusiastically and it was pretty awesome.

Next day was rather full of activities as well. First stop, the Cloisters. To get there, we walked through a very lovely park. Inside the museum, I was rather upset that we weren’t allowed to take photos of the main attraction, the Unicorn in Captivity.

~~~~~
O dia seguinte foi bem cheio de atividades também. Primeira parada, Os Claustros. Para chegar lá, nós atravessamos um parque bem bonito e agradável. Dentro do museu, eu fiquei bem chateada por não ser permitido tirar foto da atração principal, O Unicórnio em Cativeiro.
Os Claustros também têm um jardim bem interessante com plantas e ervas usadas na Idade Média, várias plantas venenosas e ervas medicinais, como a infame Belladonna.
And then the Guggenheim Museum. It isn’t big, and the art in there is not really that interesting. And when we joined the line (eating some pretty good ice-cream!) to get inside we didn’t know there was a James Turrell Expo going on there… There were many light projection there, as his works foccuses mostly on how light behaves in certains circunstances. The Aten Reign reshaping the Museum’s rotunda was particularly trippy. It would change colors, and well… there were some people acting strange due to the effects on our perceptions. You won’t believe by looking at the photo, but there was something strange going on there thanks to these lights… lol.
E então, o Museu Guggenheim. Não é muito grande, e a arte exposta não é lá tão interessante. Quando entramos na fila (tomando um sorvete muito bom!) para entrar nós não sabíamos que estava havendo uma exposição de James Turrell… Haviam muitas projeções de luz, já que o trabalho dele foca em como a luz se comporta em algumas circunstâncias específicas. O Aten Reign reformulou a rotunda do museu e era um tanto psicodélico. Ficava mudando de cor, e bem… tinham algumas pessoas agindo de forma estranha devido à forma que os efeitos agem sobre nossas percepções. Pela foto não dá para acreditar, mas tinha algo estranho acontecendo lá por conta dessas luzes…
