Cusco – Day Four – Sacred Valley of the South

Around the region of Cuzco there are many tours you can take. Some are way more famous, others not so much. The Sacred Valley of the South isn’t very well known, I think it’s mostly because there aren’t artisans markets around to attract the eager turists, but for those who enjoy seeing the local landscape and ruins, it’s a good option to visit. And because there were nearly no one around, I took a few self-portraits (using walls and stones as tripods haha, and yeah, my guide David kept making fun of me because of that).

Our First stop was to check on the somewhat famous barroque church in Andahuaylillas. Gorgeous place, but like every church in Peru, you can’t take pictures inside. I took 4, but the guard saw it and made me erase two =/

Ao redor da região de Cusco existem vários tours a se fazer. Alguns são famosos e bem conhecidos, outros nem tanto. O Vale Sagrado do sul não é muito conhecido, eu acho que isso se deve principalmente ao fato de não ter mercados de artesanato por perto para atrair os turistas, mas para quem gosta de ver as paisagens da região e ruínas diversas é uma boa opção. E como não tinha muita gente por perto eu resolvi fazer alguns auto-retratos (usando muros e pedras como tripé haha, e sim, o meu guia David ficou tirando super sarro de mim).

Nossa primeira parada foi na relativamente conhecida igreja barroca de Andahuaylillas. Igreja linda, mas como em toda igreja no Peru, não pode tirar fotos no interior. Eu tirei 4, o guarda viu e me fez apagar duas =/ 

I truly loved the peruvian culture! It’s such a mix of influences, such rich art, so much symbology everywhere, everything! In nearly all churches we could find finely framed mirrors, these were representations of the sun. The sun and the moon could be seen everywhere in their art.

Eu realmente me apaixonei pela cultura peruana! É tão cheia de uma mistura de influências, uma arte tão rica, tem tanta simbologia em tudo e todos lugares! Em quase todas igrejas que visitei podem-se ver espelhos com belas molduras que representam o sol. O Sol e a Lua podem ser vistos em todo lugar na arte peruana.

Next stop, Pikillacta. Ruins of the Wari, a pre-Inca people. The main use was for religious cerimonies. There were many Palo Santos there, one of their sacred trees. I made a search on the internet and I found out I didn’t get to see the impressive aqueduct there =(

 Próxima parada, Pikillaqta. Ruínas dos Wari, um povo pre-Inca. O uso principal do lugar era para cerimonias religiosas. Haviam vários Palos Santos lá, uma das árvores sagradas do povo peruano. Eu fiz uma busca na internet e descobri que não cheguei a ver o aqueduto impressionante que tem lá =(

Next and last, Tipón. Tipón is said to have been some kind of resort for the Inca (the emperor). The water from this place runs through the Inca channels to this day and still provides the people of the area with clean drinkable water. This place too, has many micro-climates like that of Moray’s terraces.

 Próximo e último local foi Tipón. Dizem que Tipón era tipo um resort para o imperador Inca. A água desse lugar ainda corre pelos canais construídos pelos incas e ainda provém a população local com água limpa potável. Esse lugar também tem vários micro-climas como os terraços de Moray.

There were so many kinds of clovers in Cuzco! All of them full of flowers! I couldn’t resist a photo there! 😉

Haviam tantos tipos de trevos (treboles) em Cusco! Todos eles cheios de flores! Eu não consegui resistir e fiz algumas fotos lá! 😉

Back to Cuzco for yet another lovely meal. I finally ordered a Chicha Morada (a juice made with their purple corn). And hot chocolate (I drank so much of it there! haha) and a chicken, mushroom and – lots of – cheese crepe.

De volta a Cusco para mais uma refeição agradável. Eu finalmente pedi uma Chicha Morada (um suco feito com o milho roxo deles – maiz morado). E chocolate quente (tomei tanto disso lá haha) e um crepe de frango, cogumelo e – muito – queijo.
