A Race of Fascinating Demons

The people who follow my blog might have noticed that I like going to museums. Museums are a great source of inspiration to me. Not always I get to bring to life the images I have in mind, but I was glad I finally got to do this one that I had planned on doing for months now. So, my source of inspiration for these photos was african art seen at the MET museum and Museum of Natural History in NYC. More precisely this, this and this Nkondi. Do yourself a favor and check on google images for Nkondi. There are some really impressive images out there.

Fazer-arte-é-preciso

So, for these photos I needed someone with an impressive face, needed to be bald… and shouldn’t be shy of posing nude nor worrying too much about people’s hypocritical chastities, that quite frankly don’t interest me. I found the perfect such model in Janaina Oliveira. I had sent the reference images to William Cruz (the make up artist who’s being doing wonders lately) and Janaina and explained what I had in mind. We were all super excited about doing it. It took us 3 hours to get the make up done and glueing the nails on her head and shoulders and only one hour to do the photos. I made sure we were having fun and lots of laughs in hopes she wouldn’t get mad at us and decide to headbutt the shit out of us lol.

Remarkable, that’s the least I can say about it!🙂

A very impressive portfolio, showing off your talent of imagination. I wasn’t sure about the photos when you first posted them on Flickr because I couldn’t see any connection, but when you explain the museum context it adds a lot to the concept. I hope all that make-up (especially the nails) came off easily!🙂
