I have mentioned before how pleased I was with this photoshoot for Yallega. What I didn’t mention was the strangeness of this place. Marquinhos – the stylist – was the one who found the mansion and I was the one to had to ask for permission to use it for a photoshoot. Permission was granted, but the guy “who just lived there” said that he might not be there the day we had planned on taking the photos, and if the guards didn’t make a fuss about it, we could go inside and carry on with our business. When we arrived there, there was nobody home, but a few minutes later the guy we had talked to showed up and said it was ok for us to take our photos…

If you check this post you can see some photos at a stair, with glass doors behind. Well, behind those doors there were literally hundreds of broken toys, dolls mostly. All dirty and piled up. Pretty scary imagery if you ask me.
~~~~~
Se vocês derem uma olhada nesse post vocês verão fotos em uma escada, com uma porta de vidro atrás. Bom, atrás dessa porta haviam literalmente centenas de brinquedos quebrados, a maioria bonecas. Tudo sujo e empilhado. Um tanto assustador, se é que você quer mesmo saber.
Then, a little later, two girls on their twenties got in and started walking all around, looking for the mansion’s entrance. A little after that, two men in their forties walked in too, and started nosing around about our business there. They got inside the house and then soon one of them left. A few minutes later we saw through the window, two ladies in their eighties giving some kind of lectures to the two younger ones. Just these two older ladies were dressed like someone from another century. They were both dressed in high collar black dresses, very gothic looking. Actually, very much like Victoria from Corpse Bride. And they had their hair made in the same style. Weeeeird!!! We didn’t see them getting in, so they must had been inside the whole time.
Então, um pouco mais tarde duas garotas com uns vinte anos entraram no quintal e começaram a andar por todo o lugar, procurando pela porta de entrada da mansão. Um pouco depois disso, dois homens nos seus quarenta anos entraram também, e começaram a fuçar perguntando o que era aquilo que estávamos fazendo. Entraram na casa e logo um deles foi embora. Logo depois, vimos através da janela duas senhoras por volta de seus oitenta anos dando algum tipo de aula para as duas mais novas. Acontece que essas estavam vestidas como pessoas de séculos atrás. Ambas estavam vestidas com vestidos pretos de colarinho alto e apertado, bem góticas mesmo. Na verdade, pareciam a Victoria do filme “a Noiva Cadáver”. E o cabelo delas estava feito no mesmo estilo. Muuuuito estranhoooo!! E nós não as vimos entrar, portanto deveriam estar dentro da casa o tempo todo.
From this window above, we could hear something running around the house, making the spookiest haunting noises. We were all glad and ready when we were through taking photos inside the mansion’s yard and moved outside to take photos of the wall. Which was pretty weird too as you can see. It’s a gate on the wall and there never were stairs to go up… And it’s really high too, we had to help Carol to climb it.
Através dessa janela acima, nós podíamos escutar alguma coisa correndo pela casa, fazendo uns barulhosos horríveis e assustadores. Nós todos ficamos felizes e estávamos mais do que prontos quando terminamos de fazer as fotos no quintal da mansão e passamos para fora para fazer as fotos no muro. Que aliás era bem estranho também como vocês podem ver. Tem um portão no mudo e nunca houve escadas para subir por ali… e é bem alto também, tivemos que ajuda a Carol a subir.
I always think about going back there and founding out about those two old ladies, but I’m afraid they keep zombies in their basement! 😛
Eu sempre penso em voltar lá e descobrir o que acontece com aquelas duas senhoras, mas eu acho que eles guardam zumbis no porão 😛
wonderful dialogue about a very unusual place an the adventures and sites seen ther, very lovely work you have done there, my dear, wish you got a shot of the two old ladies though, but waht you have is very well posed and executed!!
Que lugar arrepiante!! Juro, meus cabelos estão em pé!! 😛
Mas as imagens estão perfeitas, um grande trabalho Annita!!
Thank you two! 😉
The use of light and high key very good as usual. Carol models well at the beginning but her look changes to uncertainty in the ‘gateway’ maybe because of the height or weird experiences
yep, she did change a bit
I love all the images, and particularly the last one because it’s so symmetrical. It’s like the sort of photos that were taken of Audrey Hepburn in her heyday. I love the way your model has such catlike eyes, but I wonder if the disturbances heightened her awareness to emphasise her expression.
The whole story is fantastic and intriguing. You are as much an adventurer as a photographer, and a book of such stories would sell like hotcakes. I’d definitely buy it. Your images are so romantic and exotic for someone like me that lives in a very different landscape and climate, that it would be like a really sumptuous novel with pictures.
Thanks for the entertainment, and for taking us along on the adventure!
wow! thank you so much for your words, Sam!!! *.*
great photos. I like the simplicity and the light in first photo. I also really like the softnes of the last one. 🙂
Your every picture is great.
Anna,entao vamos voltar e fazer algumas lá?heun?rs com as bonecas!rs
Eu fui lá esses dias, o cara que mora lá não deixa mais usar. Ele ficou bravo porque o povo da UEL foi lá e deram prosseguimento no processo de tombamento do patrimônio histórico da cidade, do qual essa casa faz parte. Ele queria vender o lugar…
